If there’s one thing you need to add to your checklist this summer, it’s a trip to Coney Island! There are activities for all ages, making it the perfect weekend destination for the whole family.  The beach, the boardwalk, 3 amusement parks and an aquarium—what’s not to love!? No matter where you are in the city, Coney Island is easily accessible by subway. The N, Q, D, or F will place you exactly one block away from the boardwalk!

If you want to start early and be there all day start with a quiet morning at the Aquarium. Arrive at 10am and plan to spend 2 hours.
Get up close and personal with sea creatures from all over the world. The conservation hall houses hundreds of tropical fish while their outdoor exhibit lets you soak up the sun and marvel at walruses, sea otters, and seals oh my. When weather permits,  watch intelligent sea lions interact with their trainers at the Aquatheater.

Admission is  just $11.95 for ages 3 and up, making it a great, affordable (air-conditioned) first stop on the Boardwalk!

The Best of Coney Island Food

This strip holds several restaurants and shops ranging from hot dogs, pizza, funnel cake, and Italian ices to souvenir shops and boardwalk games.

For Food Cravers:

  • HOT DOGS: Choose from a wide variety of different hotdogs and toppings  at Nathan’s Famous  You can’t miss them. There are two location son the boardwalk!
  • EVERYTHING: Stop by the all-American diner Tom’s Coney Island, for a some great food and a relaxing indoor setting.
  • PIZZA: The best pizza is at Grimaldi’s at 1215 Surf Avenue. You can also check out  Famiglia, located on the boardwalk.
  • DESSERT: Grab one of the signature funnel cakes at Paul’s Daughter. along with a margarita for mom 🙂

Hit the Boardwalk

Be on the look out for all the characters that hang on the boardwalk. The kids love them, but they can be aggressive when collecting tips. If you stop for a photo, get it done as fast as possible, pay, and keep moving. We walked along the beach and down the boardwalk after the amusement park. We finally  looped around to the street, popped into a few more shops, then hit the subway and headed home.

This little one wore herself out. 6 hours was a little too much for us, but in the end we had a ball. Hope you enjoy your trip!!

The end to a successful day on the boardwalk.
